Should you pay a premium for Daikin, or does the Midea Xtreme Save deliver comparable performance at a lower price? We compare them honestly — specs, efficiency, noise, and value.
When Essex homeowners ask us to compare brands, the Midea Xtreme Save vs Daikin Perfera question comes up regularly. Both are high-efficiency single split systems — but there's a meaningful price difference. Is it justified? Here's our honest assessment.
The Brands: A Quick Introduction
Daikin is the premium choice — a Japanese brand widely regarded as the industry benchmark for efficiency and reliability. Their Perfera series is among the best residential single split systems available in the UK.
Midea is the world's largest AC manufacturer by volume. Their Xtreme Save series targets the premium mid-market with specs that rival the Japanese brands at a noticeably more accessible price point.
Energy Efficiency: Too Close to Call
Both units achieve A+++ ratings for cooling and heating in the 2.5kW–3.5kW size range.
Midea Xtreme Save 3.5kW: SEER 8.5 / SCOP 5.1 Daikin Perfera 3.5kW: SEER 8.74 / SCOP 5.1
The Daikin's SEER is marginally higher — about 3% better in seasonal cooling efficiency. In real terms, for a bedroom AC running on summer evenings in Essex, the annual saving would be a few pence per day. Not nothing, but not life-changing.
For heating efficiency, the SCOP is identical at 5.1.
Verdict: Effectively equal. The Daikin has a very slight edge in cooling efficiency that won't be noticeable in day-to-day use.
Noise Level: Very Close
Midea Xtreme Save 3.5kW indoor: 19 dB(A) minimum Daikin Perfera 3.5kW indoor: 19 dB(A) minimum
Both units operate at 19 dB(A) on their lowest fan speed — the gold standard for a bedroom air conditioning unit. Both are, in practice, essentially silent when sleeping.
The Daikin's outdoor unit is marginally quieter than the Midea (43 dB(A) vs 46 dB(A)) — which may matter if your outdoor unit is close to a bedroom window or a neighbour's fence.
Verdict: Indoor — equal. Outdoor — slight Daikin advantage.
Cold Climate Heating
Midea Xtreme Save: Rated heating operation to -15°C outdoor ambient. Daikin Perfera: Rated heating operation to -20°C outdoor ambient.
Both are well beyond anything Essex will experience in winter. The Daikin's colder limit is relevant in Scandinavia — not in Essex.
Verdict: Both more than sufficient for the UK climate.
Smart Features and App Control
Midea Xtreme Save: Built-in Wi-Fi, Midea Air app (iOS/Android), Alexa and Google Home compatible. The Midea Air app is clean and well-designed with energy monitoring included.
Daikin Perfera: Wi-Fi via optional BRP069C4x adapter (approximately £80 extra). Daikin Online Controller app. Alexa and Google Home compatible.
This is a genuine Midea advantage — Wi-Fi is included as standard, not an add-on.
Verdict: Midea wins on smart features and value.
Build Quality and Reliability
Both systems use R32 refrigerant and high-quality inverter-driven compressors. Both should last 15–20 years with annual servicing.
Daikin has a longer track record in the UK premium market and an extensive UK engineer network. Midea's reliability record, in our experience installing both brands across Essex, has been excellent — we've seen very few call-backs on Midea systems.
Verdict: Both excellent. Daikin has a longer UK track record; Midea's reliability has been very strong in our experience.
Price Comparison (Fully Installed)
Midea Xtreme Save 3.5kW, fully installed: £1,100–£1,450 Daikin Perfera 3.5kW, fully installed (inc. Wi-Fi adapter): £1,500–£1,900
The price difference is typically £300–£500 for effectively equivalent performance.
Our Recommendation
For most Essex homeowners — whether installing in a bedroom, living room, or home office — the Midea Xtreme Save is our recommendation. You get A+++ efficiency, 19 dB(A) quiet operation, built-in Wi-Fi, and cold-climate heating, with savings of £300–£500 compared to an equivalent Daikin.
If budget is no object and you have a specific preference for the Daikin brand name, the Perfera is a superb system and we're happy to install it. But in honest performance terms, the Midea Xtreme Save gives you 95% of the Daikin at 75–80% of the price.
Both come with full warranty when installed by Future Smart Electrical as registered installers. Contact us for a free survey anywhere in Essex.
